Firstfruits and Resurrection
The tomb is found empty and the firstfruits offering is presented in the temple.
Nearly 1500 years earlier, Jehovah commanded the High Priest to present a wave offering, or sometimes called the sheaf offering, wave sheaf, or first sheaf. It is an offering of firstfruits before the Lord in the temple on the day after the first weekly Sabbath after the Passover (Leviticus 23:10-11, 16) to be presented that all the harvest to follow would be acceptable before the Lord.
Jesus told Mary there at the tomb that he had not yet ascended to His Father, but to go and tell the others that this is what was about to happen. Just at the time the High Priest would be in the temple raising the first sheaf before the Lord that all the follow would be acceptable before the Lord, the Lord himself would be ascending to His Father to present himself as the first sheaf and that all who follow him may be acceptable too (and many did follow and many graves were opened after His as well).
The resurrection aligns with the wave sheaf offering after the weekly Sabbath.
- Mary arrives before dawn and finds the tomb open.
- The messenger declares, "He is not here, but was raised."
- Jesus ascends as the firstfruits of the resurrection.
The firstfruits ritual mirrors the resurrection as the first of the harvest.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
